Modern Cars – They All Look Like Electric Shavers

October 23, 2013

Sin City has long been one of my favorite movies. The quote¬†“Modern cars – they all look like electric shavers,” from Marv played by Mickey Rourke made me think of laptops, tablets and phones.

Apple is known for pushing its simple, clean aluminum hardware. And really, Microsoft with the Surface and Google’s Nexus lines aren’t too far behind. And while Nokia uses a lot of colors (with Apple’s 5C recently following suit), all of these have very similar lines, form factors and shapes.

They make me think of Marv’s quote. Or Star Wars I-III. Where is the Star Wars IV-VI? Or classic cars of the 60s and 70s?

I wonder if there’s an opportunity for a company to have a different, divergent design instead of the current convergent trends. And what would it be?
