My Ideal iPhone
September 20, 2014A few months ago my trusty iPhone 5 died. It was my first iPhone and Viddy bought it for me the week after the iPhone 5 came out. Since it died, my sister gave me her old iPhone 4S. Before that I had always had an Android phone – three of them all told.
I won’t go into why I converted to iOS or why I want to stay (despite doing some Android development). I want to visit what my ideal iPhone would be now that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are out in the wild.
What do I use my phone for? Here they are in roughly the order of frequency:
- email (GMail)
- messaging (both the Messages app and Google Hangouts)
- referencing something online (not addresses/locations)
- mapping/finding my way around (Google Maps)
- Foursquare/Swarm
- Feedly
- taking pictures and videos (this is much higher during certain contexts, it was definitely the top when I was on my trip)
What that means the features I’d like are:
- a small, iPhone 4/4S width and height
- an iPhone 5 depth (or thinner)
- includes LTE (being on 3G only after being on LTE makes me realize just how much faster that is)
- has a fantastic camera (slow-motion is sweet and the pictures coming from iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus right now seem amazing)
Does that phone exist? No. Time to debate between a 5S and a 6…
