2018 Resolutions First Quarter Progress

March 31, 2018

It’s that time of year, time for a quarterly 2018 resolution update.

  1. Professional Development
    1. Update Type. Done! I updated to fix a crash in iOS and added support for 280 characters on Android, iOS, and web.
    2. Create a simple app with Flutter. This is in progress. I’m most of the way through a very simple v0.1, look out for updates on this hopefully soon.
    3. Write a blog post each quarter for the Rocket blog. One published and one on the way.
  2. Personal Development
    1. Continue reading a book a month with a stretch goal of 15 books this year. I’m seven books in already, so making pretty good progress here. The books are:
      1. The Bee: A Natural History by Noah Wilson-Rich
      2. The Black Monday Murders, Vol. 1: All Hail, God Mammon by Jonathan Hickman
      3. Weapons of Math Destruction: How Big Data Increases Inequality and Threatens Democracy by Cathy O’Neil
      4. The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury
      5. The Weekend Garden Guide: Work-Saving Ways to a Beautiful Backyard by Susan A. Roth
      6. Beekeeping for Dummies by Howland Blackiston
      7. David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants by Malcolm Gladwell
    2. Missy and I decided to do a monthly art club. Faltering here, unfortunately. Missy has had to work a lot of nights and while I’ve been able to do this, it hasn’t been an activity for the both of us.
  3. Fitness
    1. Ride my bike to work every day it’s reasonable to do so. Looks like that time is coming up soon!
    2. Do the Crossfit workout of the day. This has been great. Anywhere from 10-40 minutes a day, depending. I did have to take a week off when I pulled my hamstring, but I’m easing back into it.
    3. Run three times a week. It’s getting warmer fast now, so I can really go after this one. I’ve run when it’s been unseasonably warm, so when it’s seasonably warm, I plan to continue.

So far, so good. I had a panicked moment a couple days ago that I might be forgetting something, but this one has been pretty good so far.
